This past weekend I visited a show that, sadly, ended on May 1. It was at the Hoffman Center
for the Arts in Manzanita, and was titled Capturing Oregon’s Magic. It featured a sampling of
works included in the book, “Oregon Painters Landscape to modernism, 1859-1959”.
This is a wonderful book by Ginny Allen and Jody Klevit.
It was a beautiful show. I thoroughly enjoyed the unpretentious and peaceful feel.
The artists were painting the world around them, working in a variety of styles, interpreting
their environment and the people in it. These works invite the viewer to share their fascination
with this world and its people. Images from a from a less strident and confrontational era, that
I found very meaningful.
